He’s signed. I’m writing this at around 5:30 a.m. Eastern, and that’s because Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays have reached an agreement. His next contract will pay him $500 million over 14 years.

I know back in February I wrote the article Vladdy’s Last Dance when the two sides couldn’t reach a deal at the start of Spring Training—and yes, I was angry—but today is a great day for the Blue Jays and their fans.

Now, of course, there are going to be negative fans who don’t feel he’s worth the money, or who’ll say, “He better live up to the contract.” Well, guess what? He is worth $500 million—because someone has agreed to pay him that salary. And as for living up to the contract? He can, and he will. All you need to do is look at the impact he’s had on the city of Toronto and on Blue Jays fans.

This guy is beloved by the fanbase. When you go to the Dome, there are so many jerseys with the number 27 on the back. Vladdy has always said he wanted to stay in Toronto, and now he will—for 14 more seasons.

Forget about the sweep by the Mets. Focus on this right now. Focus on the fact that, once again, for the next 14 seasons, we’ll be watching Vladimir Guerrero Jr. play for our Toronto Blue Jays.

Sleep well, Jays fans.
